FOR INSTITUTIONAL AND ACCREDITED INVESTORS

Fund Management

We manage funds that seek returns from sources other than listed stocks and bonds, from Japanese equity long/short to private credit, litigation finance and real assets.

Our funds are available only to institutional and accredited investors, through private placement.

FOR PRIVATE CLIENTS

EAM / Discretionary Management

As an external asset manager (EAM), we manage portfolios held in our clients' own names at private banks and brokers. We give dealing instructions only and never hold client money or assets.

We specialise in Japanese clients living outside Japan.

FUND MANAGEMENT

Strategies beyond stocks and bonds.

Our strategies are built around sources of return that behave differently from listed equity and bond markets. We look for areas where specialist structuring, legal and operational work is part of the return.

Steel plate leasing, SingaporeLease income through equity and loans to a leasing business.
Japanese auto loan receivablesInterest income from a granular pool of consumer auto loans.
This website does not offer, and is not an invitation to subscribe for, interests in any fund. Our funds are offered by private placement only to institutional investors and accredited investors as defined in the Securities and Futures Act 2001 of Singapore, and in other jurisdictions only where permitted. Details of specific funds, including terms and performance, are provided on request to eligible investors only.
EAM / DISCRETIONARY MANAGEMENT

An independent manager for the accounts you already hold.

i.

Accounts in your own name

Your assets are held in your name with a private bank or broker. We never hold client money or assets.

ii.

Independent

As we are not tied to any one institution, you are free to choose the bank or broker that best suits your objectives.

iii.

Discretionary management

Once an investment policy is agreed, we take day-to-day dealing decisions on your behalf.

How we work
Client Owner of the assets Private bank / Broker Custodian of the client's assets Monterey Takes investment decisions Accounts in your own name Deposits and withdrawals by the client only Discretionary mandate Under an agreed investment policy Dealing instructions only No authority to withdraw or transfer funds

We are an external manager appointed to run the accounts you hold with a bank or broker (the industry calls this an EAM, an external asset manager). Your assets always stay in an account in your name, and we can only give dealing instructions; we cannot withdraw or transfer funds. Your assets are held by the bank or broker, segregated from our own.
